Project: Addis Abeba restaurant.
Client: Restaurant owner.
Location: Barcelona, Spain.
Lighting design: ilombra; Edgar Dominguez.
A custom-made project for this restaurant located in the Sants neighborhood of Barcelona. The owner wanted to strengthen the atmosphere and the native Ethiopian customs.
The project had an important ad hoc design factor. Several luminaires and integrated solutions were designed, such as bamboo cases to cover the electrified rails and two types of luminaries specially thought to celebrate the ritual of eating with the hands. Table lights were made with blown glass, amber tinted and covered with a top layer of clay to evoke the soil of Ethiopia. Specially designed light pipes pleasantly bathed the washbasin area and brightly lighted a fundamental part of the restaurant: the sink to wash one’s hands.
